Never stop taking your insulin even if you do not feel well and cannot eat.
Measure your blood glucose more frequently, at least 4 times a day and adjust your insulin dose if necessary.
If you do not feel like eating solid food, try alternatives like milk, soup, cereals, ice cream, pudding, fruit juice or fizzy drinks to replace your carbohydrate allowance.
Try to drink plenty of liquids such as water or sugar free drinks through the day.
Frequently test your urine for ketones and glucose as it will give you the first warning of either a lack of insulin or a lack of carbohydrates.
Contact your diabetes clinic or your GP in the following cases:
You are vomiting.
Your blood glucose level remains high or conversely low.
You do not improve quickly.
You are unsure about what to do.
