DVLA
If you are a person newly diagnosed with diabetes, you must notify the DVLA of your diabetes. Their address is Drivers Medical Unit, DVLA, Longview Road, Swansea SA99 1TF. The DVLA will send you a form to complete after which you will be issued with a license valid for one to three years. It will be renewed free of charge when necessary.
You should also inform you motor insurance company about the fact that you have diabetes.
Free prescriptions
People with diabetes are entitled to free prescriptions (except when treated by diet alone). You will need to complete an application form available from your hospital, GP or local post office.
Identification
It is advisable to carry some form of identification mentioning that you have diabetes and listing the medication you take. Bracelets, necklaces and ID cards are available.
