Diabetes : Needle reuse (BD Medical - Diabetes Care)

Insulin syringes and pen needles are single use medical devices and as such, are intended to be used only once.
Reuse offers no benefit but can on the other hand represent a serious risk for your health. It is therefore important to think carefully when considering the reuse of single use products.

In the hospital environment, reprocessing and reuse of single use devices carries the risk of cross contamination and therefore may compromise the performance and safety of those products, putting your health at risk.

At home, even though the risk of self-contamination is limited, reuse of needles is associated with other risks such as injection pain, microtrauma, needle bending and breakage, needle clogging or dosage inaccuracy and sterility.
