- Monitor your blood sugar level and check for sugar and ketones in your urine.
- An excess of sugar or ketones must be considered as an emergency, call your doctor or diabetes specialist nurse.
While awaiting medical advice:
- Drink water regularly.
- Continue to eat as normal.
- Continue to inject your insulin as normal.
Look into the causes of this hyperglycaemia
- Did you have too little or no insulin at all?
- Did you have any infection or fever?
- Did you experience any stress or worry?
- Did you have less exercise than usual?
- Did you eat more than you usually do?
If you feel you can identify the cause of your "hyper", write it down in your diary.
Never miss your insulin injection!
