Diabetes : Consequences of lipodystrophy (BD Medical - Diabetes Care)

Injecting into a lipo can cause your insulin to be absorbed erratically by your body. When your insulin is not absorbed properly you will experience large and unpredictable changes in your blood sugar level. These uncontrolled changes can be frustrating when you are trying to manage your diabetes and could result in hypoglycaemia (also known as a "hypo" which is a drop in your blood sugar level) or hyperglycaemia (when your blood sugar levels are too high).

Although lipos do not look very nice there is no evidence that they develop later into malignant tumours.
